Dance

Dance is a sport but it is also an art form. It is used as a form of expression or social interaction. It is presented in a spiritual or performance setting. Dance refers to the movement of the body, usually rhythmic and accompanied by music.
Dance as an art may tell a story, set a mood, or express an emotion. Some dances consist of symbolic gestures that tell a story completely through movement. As recreation, dancing has long been a people's source of fun, relaxation, and companionship.
Dances can be done solo, while some dances require 2 or more people.
There are many different types and styles of dance, which in most cases have sub-categories revering to a specific dance.

Types of Dance:
  • Ballet
  • Ballroom
  • Belly-dancing
  • Hip-hop
  • Irish
  • Modern
  • Salsa
  • Swing
  • Tap
  • Jazz
  • etc...

My Favorite Artist

Diane Arbus
(March 14, 1923 - July 26, 1971)

Diane Arbus has been my favorite artist since I first discovered her while doing a project for my high school photography class. Since then I have felt like I can not look at her photographs enough.

She was one of the most original and influential American Artists of the 20th century. Most of her photographs were of abnormal people in society. She found most of her subjects in New York City and its environs during the 1950s and 1960s.
Her portraits of couples, children, carnival performers, nudists, middle-class families, transvestites, people on the street, zealots, eccentrics, and celebrities explore the relationship between appearance and identity.

Human Strugle in an Art Form

To me, the painting by Andrew Wyeth, "Christina's World", represents human struggle. Since the painted was created shortly after the Great Depression, I feel that the picture is a reflection of the hard times people faced, especially in rural farm towns.
The girl seems to be in a desperate struggle by the way she is on the ground as if she has fallen but is still reaching out towards the house as if she will not give up, even if she has to crawl to make her way.
