This particular film is considered a work of art for several reasons. For starters this film was created in the mind of Salvador Dali, a famous artist. Just because of that one simple fact this film is art.
When I was fifteen I saw this film with some friends that were already in college. This movie left such an impression on me that I had to show it to my mother as soon as I got home.
The actual filming and special effects in this film are an art unto themselves. The scene where the woman's eyeball is slit open looks so realistic. This was a big deal since this movie came out in 1929. The film was ahead of its time.
Art is something that leaves a lasting impression, this film did just that.
